AN INSIGHT ON KEY ASPECTS ALLIED TO DISCIPLINE OF HOMEOPATHY

Homeopathy is a very important part of the medical system which is based on the belief that the body can cure itself. Those who are involved in this system or who practice it, uses tiny amounts of natural substances, such as plants and minerals as they believe that these natural substances stimulates the healing process. Homeopathy was developed in Germany in the late 1700s. It is very common in many European countries, but not quite as popular as it is in the United States.

WORK PROCESS

A basic belief homeopathy poses in itself is, “like cures like”. In other words, something which brings on the symptoms in a healthy person can be in a very small dose, treat the illness with similar symptoms. This implies triggering the body’s natural defenses. For instance, onion makes the eyes water and that is the reason why it is used in homeopathic remedies for allergies. Treatments for other ailments are prepared from poison ivy, crushed whole bees, white arsenic, and an herb called arnica. Homeopathic doctors or homeopaths weaken these ingredients by adding water or alcohol. Then they shake the mixture as a part of the process called “potentization.” Homeopaths believe that this step transfers the healing essence. They also believe that lower the dose, the more powerful the medicine would be. In fact, many of these remedies does not contain any molecules of the original substance coming in a variety of forms, like sugar pellets, liquid drops, creams, gels, or even tablets.

What Conditions Does Homeopathy Treat?

Homeopathy is used for a wide variety of health issues, including some chronic illnesses:

  • Allergies
  • Depression
  • Migraines
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Premenstrual syndrome

It can also be used for minor issues such as bruises, toothaches, scrapes, headaches, nausea, coughs and colds.

Just keep in mind to don’t use homeopathic medicine for life-threatening illnesses, like asthma, cancer, and heart disease, or even in emergencies. You must also avoid using it in place of vaccines. There are some homeopathic products called “nosodes” that are marketed as an alternative for vaccines, but there is no research done which proves them effective, hence they can be harmful.

What Are the Risks?

The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) oversees all the homeopathic remedies. But it does not check to see if they are safe or effective. In general, most of the remedies are so watered down that they do not even cause any side effects. However there are exceptions as these homeopathic medicines can contain a large amount of an active ingredient, such as heavy metal, which could be dangerous. In 2016, the FDA also issued a warning against usage of these homeopathic teething tablets and gels because of the possible health risks to infants and children.

Also, if you are thinking about trying these alternative treatments, then first talk to your doctor. He will make sure that they are safe and will not interact with any other medications that you are taking. You can even search for Homeopathic clinic in Bhopal or in any other city where you are staying, in search engine to know about homeopathic clinics near you.

Does It Work?

Some research and studies reveals that homeopathic remedies are very helpful, while others do not. Critics chalk up the benefits to the placebo effect and that is when the symptoms improve because you believe that the treatment is working, just not because it really is. This can even trigger the brain to release chemicals that would relieve the pain or other symptoms.
